Spring Critters

Robins have been around for a few weeks. Last weekend I saw some bees flying around, but got sad when I found a dead carpenter bee in my garden. Hopefully he just stayed out a little to long in the cold. Last night I clinched Springs arrival, Linus and I where walking back form a evening walk along the canal and we saw bats. No sight of the white groundhog though.

Not Linus van Pelt

Last night, 2008-02-27, Linus Gustave Heinicke was extracted from my wife’s belly. Though a cæsarean section was scheduled for leap day, when 余艾蕾 went in for a preop the Doctors choose to make the fetus a baby then. He was just under 7 pounds. Height seemed to be will within error tolerance. The finger and toe count added up to twenty.

Hallowe’en Music

Sure, Samhain doesn’t start for a week, but having a three year old means it is on! Zoë just watched this little bit, like, ten times in a row. This is Hallowe’en music:

Squirrel Nut Zippers already has a great Christmas album, they should make a Hallowe’en one too. Or is that every album but the Christmas one?

The Boy Who Cryed WMD

According to Wikipedia, the attack on Perl Harbor killed 2,388 people, the September 11, 2001 attacks killed 2,993. The 9/11 sum includes the terrorists, I don’t think the Perl Harbor deaths include any invaders, but all but 55 of them where military. The 9/11 deaths were predominantly civilians.

The Japanese invasion united the country, al Qaeda united the country. As I watch Ken Burns and Lynn Novick’s The War I am amazed at the lessons forgotten. I would of bought a war bonds, I would of (I did) limit my gas usage, I wanted to sacrifice. When George W. Bush was first running for President I remember hoping John McCain would win, and there is only one Republican I have ever voted for, but Mr. Bush won, so I wanted him to succeed. I’m a patriot, what the masses thought was more impartant then what I thought. One of these posts I’ll figure out what I think now.

Bigger, and bigger, and bigger

Sometimes they both sleep through the night, and then the smaller follows it with long naps during the day. And blink they’re bigger.

Footprint Quiz

Taking the Ecological Footprint Quiz, I would need 1.6 Earths if everybody lived like me. The problem is I went back and tried to change things that I though would make it better, but I only got more Earths. Maybe it just pops out a random number.

Freeze the moment, please

Gush, gush. Sometimes it’s hard to describe the emotions you feel as a parent; they change with time, as do the kids who bring them about. But the feelings from this picture will hopefully always be in there, somewhere.

Hello Computer

I was agonizing about getting a new computer, so Daphne made some command decisions, she used her employee discount, and got a Dell. She got a Dell Dimension C521 with Windows XP Media Center Edition. Though I don’t think she will admit it, she loves it, it works as a great television in the kitchen, it’s even got a remote control! Plus it gets all those extended basic cable channels we don’t pay for. Hello Dr. Who!

I was agonizing because I wanted to get a computer that I would not have to fight with the hardware to run Linux. Daphne wanted a television in the kitchen. I wanted Linux to play audio files, and a video podcast or two. Daphne wanted a television in the kitchen. I wanted to stand up for my libertarian rights to have no corporate software on my computer. Daphne wanted a television in the kitchen. So Daphne won three votes to two. Zoë just wants to be able to visit Elmo’s web site. To be honest, I’m not giving 余艾蕾 full credit, but this is my post not hers.

Zoë happened to be sick the day the system was going to show up so my Father came over while I tried to get some work done. In came the new Dell, I was going to leave it until the evening but my father wanted to see the TV card working. After the set up, and two or three reboots to get all the security updates installed, Zoë and Papap where happily watching Fox News.

Then came Linux! That will have to be a post for another day, as it’s time to get some work done.

W’s Marriage

I’m worried about George W. Bush’s marriage. Since New Jersey said homosexual unions can be equal, but separate, Mr. Bush said it he now raises doubts about the institution of marriage., or that the rulling raises doubts about the institution of marriage as a whole I think. I asked my wife after we heard the article on NPR about it, and she said she felt our marraige is in no less doubt now then it was before the New Jersey rulling. I think our marriage is strong and harmonious, but it seems Mr. Bush didn’t start questioning every marriage in his courtry until after this court ruling. Trust me Mr. Bush, my love for my wife is going to get no less strong no matter how you manipulate marriage, but I’m worried about yours.  I actually think marriage in a religious thing, not a government thing.
