On my Mac Powerbook we had an OS9 program that would do psychadelic colors on the screen with each key press. My large USB ergonomic keyboard was P's favorite when he was about 9 months old. Just put the laptop on the livingroom table, the keyboard in front of it, and let him go to town. I'll try to find the name of it later; I'd be surprised if there's no Windows version of the same thing. (B says you could try running it under wine to make it work on a linux laptop.)

P has adored the tuxracer program since he was really tiny, though it doesn't offer you the ability to type much. I tried to get him to use the arrow keys to move the penguin around the screen, but he's still happier just watching me. Particularly when I make it go careening off hills. :)
